Ministries of Christ Episcopal Church Pottstown

“Is not this the fast that I choose: to share your bread with the hungry, and bring the homeless poor into your house; when you see the naked, to cover them, and not to hide yourself from your own kin?” - Isaiah 58:6-7

We believe that just as Jesus became incarnate with us, he calls the Church to an incarnational ministry of being with those in need in our communities. Christ Church has a long history of practicing our faith by working with our neighbors to provide for their tangible needs.

Monday Meal:

Christ Church is the host of community meals every Monday at lunchtime. On the third Monday of the month, we provide the meal, and all volunteers for serving. If you are interested in serving on any of the Mondays, please contact Joni Coleman.

Doors open at 11:00 am for guests. A lunch meal is served from 11:30 am-1:00 pm in the parish hall.

Essentials Pantry:

Our essentials pantry, offering shelf-stable food and toiletries, is open on Mondays from 11:00 am 12:30 pm. To make a donation to the pantry, or to volunteer to serve, please contact Ginny Slichter

Adult Formation:

Formation in the Christian life is never complete - we are engaged in growth from baptism to burial. Studying scripture and learning from the rich history of the Church enlivens and deepens our faith. The adult formation offerings at Christ Church are a way of equipping the saints to live faithfully into our baptismal covenant.

The Rector’s Forum takes place on Sundays, following the 8am service. The Rector’s Forum typically follows a theme over the course of several months; previous topics have covered what the church teaches about death and dying, what Episcopalians believe, and evangelism. Currently, Fr. Joshua is leading the forum in a narrative reading of Scripture, from Genesis to Revelation.

Other adult formation opportunities include the Journey in Faith Class, for adults wishing to be confirmed or received into the Episcopal Church, and a variety of book studies led by members of the parish.

Children’s Chorister Program:

The Pottstown Girl Choristers and Pottstown Boy Choristers are two choirs formed in the summer of 2022. Membership is open to children in 4th grade and above in the Pottstown community and beyond. Children participating in this free chorister program learn music theory and voice from our choirmaster, Charles Glandorf. Since music of a very high caliber will be sung as the program grows, practices will eventually be held twice a week.

Families of interested children should contact Charles at: cglandorf@christpottstown.org or by phone: 610-416-1055.

Choir:

St. Augustine said, “He who sings prays twice.”

Our choir uses its gift of music to help usher us into the beauty and mystery of worship. Through anthems from the canon of sacred choral music, and in their support of congregational singing, the choir offers beauty to the glory of God and for the benefit of his people. For information about joining the choir, contact Charles Glandorf.

Prayer:

“Have no anxiety about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, will keep your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”

- Philippians 4:6-7 (RSV)

Through prayer, we grow in fellowship with Jesus Christ, abandoning pride and self-reliance and humbly confessing our dependence on God. Prayer can take different forms; prayers might be words, actions, or even silence. We cherish the opportunity to pray for you. If you would like us to pray for you, you can submit your prayer request with the form below.

On Sundays, trained prayer ministers are available to pray with you during the distribution of communion.
